Preparing for a consultation
You should allow an hour for a new consultation. It should be quite comprehensive.
In order for you to get the maximum value out of the consultation is likely will be asked to provide the following information:
- if your headaches come in attacks, please be prepared to describe a typical attack
- be prepared to discuss how your attacks have changed over time. To show your current headache pattern, please bring a calendar with a big “X” for a full migraine day and a little “x” for just a headache day.
- be prepared to discuss your response to individual medications. For each medication you should know its name, the dose range you tried and if you stopped it was because of lack of effectiveness or because of unwanted effects. If you are not sure of the names of the medicines or the reasons why you stop, it would be best to discuss this with your GP or pharmacist before coming to the consultation. Please bring a list of all current medications with you, or the bottles.
- please consider the critical questions you would like to have answered.
